Dr. John Field - Director (2002 - 2017)
John is a founding member of the Ruby Lake Lagoon Society. He was born in Guatemala, became interested in natural history from an early age, and has since spent most of his life studying biology. He moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast in 1984 and they took over as caretakers of the Lions Park in Pender Harbour two years later. He helped run the salmon hatchery at the Lions Park with Billy Griffith and others which operated for the next ten years. In 1993, he gained his PhD in Zoology from the University of Queensland (Australia). He then spent 21 years teaching at Capilano University in Sechelt, primarily in the Adult Basic Education Department, until he retired in 2012. John is particularly proficient at course design, programming and field instruction. John, his wife June and their two sons, Jordan and Joel live in an amazing cord-wood house which they designed and constructed themselves. John enjoys fishing for trout in the local lakes and dancing the West Coast Swing.
